Buka is a vertical-first micro-drama studio. This site, watch.watchbuka.com, is operated by Phil Town Production (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2017/036275/07), trading as Buka, based in Cape Town, South Africa. When these terms say "we", "us" or "Buka", that is who they mean. You can reach us at philip@watchbuka.com.
By watching anything on this site, or by paying to unlock a series or an episode, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
You must be 13 or older to use the site, and 18 or older to make a purchase. Some series carry an age advisory on their page. Please respect it.
Buka streams short-form series, made for your phone, in South African languages and in English. Some episodes are free. Some are locked, and you can open them by doing one of the things the page offers: giving us an email address, watching a short advert, answering a few questions, or paying. Every series page tells you which episodes are free and what it costs to open the rest before you tap anything.
There are no accounts and no passwords. We never ask you to create either.
When you pay to unlock a series, you are buying a licence to watch that series on this site, on the device you paid on and on any other device you restore access to (see section 6). The same applies to a single episode if the series offers per-episode unlocks.
Payments are processed by Payfast, a South African payment gateway. When you pay, you are taken to Payfast's secure checkout, or Payfast's checkout opens over our page. We never see or store your full card details. Your purchase is complete once Payfast confirms the payment to us, at which point the episodes unlock and we email you a link to restore access.
By paying, you confirm that you are allowed to use the payment method you chose. Refunds are covered in our refund policy.
Because there are no accounts, your unlock lives in a small file on the device you paid on (a cookie) and in our records. If you clear your browser, change phones or lose the cookie, use the link in the email we sent you when you paid, or go to /restore and enter the email address you used at checkout. We will send you a new link. Please keep that email address working. If you cannot get back in, write to us and we will sort it out.
Every series on Buka is protected by copyright and belongs to Buka or to the studio or film-maker who licensed it to us. Watching it here does not give you any rights in it. You may not download, copy, record, screen-capture, re-upload, reframe or distribute any part of it, and you may not remove or alter any credits, marks or notices.
Do not use the site to break the law, to interfere with how it works, to get around a lock, to scrape it, or to submit details that are not yours. If you give us an email address or a phone number, it must be one you control. We may block access from anyone who does these things.
We work hard to keep the site up and the video playing, but we do not promise it will always be available, fast, or free of faults. Data costs on your network are yours. We may add, change or remove series, prices, features and free episodes at any time. A change to what is free does not take away an unlock you have already paid for.
The site relies on providers we trust: Payfast for payments, Cloudflare for hosting and video delivery, and an email delivery provider for the messages we send. Your use of Payfast's checkout is also subject to Payfast's own terms. We are not responsible for services outside our control.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or any other law that cannot be excluded. Beyond that, our total liability to you for anything to do with the site or a purchase is limited to the amount you paid us for the unlock in question. We are not liable for indirect losses, or for loss of data, profit or opportunity.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top. A change does not affect an unlock you have already paid for. If you keep using the site after a change, you are agreeing to the new terms.
